That's me!

Hi! I'm Caelan, the guy behind the workbench in Caelan's Tech Lab. Local to Hall's Creek, Moncton, I have spent so much of my life around technology, and promptly taking it apart to understand how it works. Using what I've learned, I aim to provide an ethical and sustainable approach to technology that I believe to be lacking in the modern day.

Why do I do this?

Computers fascinated me in my youth. I still remember that sense of wonder that would flood through me when the old family HP tower computer whirred to life, unlocking a whole new world to explore. That feeling inspired me well into adolescence and adulthood, pushing me to explore robotics, pursue Computer Science, and take on work in AI Data Specialization.

It was not always a smooth road, though. When I was 13, I was given an Acer netbook for my school work. Even brand new, the poor little laptop struggled to perform very basic Windows functions. I was not one to give up so easily on it, and would spend years stubbornly fiddling around with it, inside and out. Even then, though, the question of "why" carried that same wonder.

That childhood awe has been joined with a looming sense of dread for the direction that technology is heading. Tech companies race for hardware and software upgrades that leave perfectly fine computers in the dust, contributing to a world of "disposable" electronics.

Caelan's Tech Lab is my guttural response to this shortsighted way of thinking. I'm here to prove that "old" does not mean "obsolete". With a little care, and the right upgrades, we can keep high-quality technology a second chance, and keep it out of Canadian landfills.
